A decade later they're in state legislatures fighting to get that data back.
AEC is at the same decision point today. Current terms of service from major platform providers claim aggregate ownership over customer content, or the right to use it for internal analytics and disclose derived insights to third parties. The building owner who paid for the infrastructure doesn't own their own operational history once they adopt one of these platforms.

Building management software and construction software are sold by different vendors, to different buyers, on different timelines -- so the handoff between them is where a building's intelligence gets lost.
Retrofitting sensors into a building that's already occupied is slower, more disruptive, and structurally worse than embedding them at the pour -- which is the case for installing at construction instead of after the fact, independent of any specific price comparison.
